Waynesburg Betterment
Project Overview
Located in the Borough of Waynesburg and Franklin Township – This $11.8 million project is needed to ensure a safe and efficient route for all modes of transportation through the downtown Waynesburg business district. The only East-West traffic routes in the county (Route 21 and Route 19) run through the business district. There are no reasonable alternatives for traffic to move through the county, which causes high traffic volumes and a high percentage of heavy vehicles.
Work will include milling and resurfacing of Route 19 and Route 21, curve flattening to accommodate truck turning, base repair, signal upgrades, signal replacements, sidewalk replacements, upgrading ADA ramps, drainage improvements, as well as upgrading signage, delineation, and pavement markings. The contractor is Gullies Construction, LLC, and the project is anticipated to be complete in October 2024.
Project Update
06/03/24 - Reconstructing will begin on Greene Street (Route 19/21) and Richhill Street (Route 19) intersection in Waynesburg. Work will require single-lane restrictions and closures with posted detours. This is one of four intersections along Waynesburg Borough's Route 19/21 corridor that will be reconstructed with concrete – providing an improved surface to accommodate heavy truck traffic.
Following completion of the Greene Street and Richhill Street intersection, the contractor is expected to proceed with reconstruction at the following intersections, in sequence:
- High Street (Route 19/21) & Richhill Street (Route 19).
- Greene Street (Route 19/21) & Morgan Street (Route 218).
- High Street (Route 19/21) & Morgan Street (Route 218).
Additionally, milling and paving operations are anticipated to begin in early July on:
- High Street (Route 19/21) from Mt. Morris Road (Route 19) to Spring Street.
- Greene Street (Route 19/21) from Richhill Street (Route 19) to the intersection of High Street.
05/15/24 - The project is currently scheduled to start reconstruction of Richhill Street on 06.03.24. Waynesburg Borough is currently winding up its sewer project which will enable Gulisek to get started on the reconstruction of Richhill Street and Morgan Street. A truck detour will be in place to direct truck traffic traveling eastbound into Waynesburg. Please follow the posted detour signs. An emergency slide on Route 19 South (Mount Morris Road) in Whiteley Township has been added to this project. Work to repair the slip began on 05.13 and will take approximately six weeks to complete.
NOTE: Waynesburg Borough's sewerage project on Richhill and Morgan Streets is anticipated to begin on April 29th, 2024. This will be coordinated and conducted by the Borough. The traffic control for this work will performed by the Waynesburg Borough Police Department. Please travel slowly through the posted work zones.
