South Dock Street Bridge Replacement

South Dock Street BridgeProject Overview

This is a proposed project to replace the bridge that carries South Dock Street (Route 718) over Pine Run in the City of Sharon, Mercer County.

The purpose of the project is to replace the bridge while also improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians.

The bridge is located on South Dock Street between the intersection with Wayne Place and the roundabout intersection with East Connelly Blvd.

The project will include replacing the existing bridge with a concrete box culvert, as well as the replacement of curb/median and sidewalk on the eastern side of the roadway.

The existing single span steel I-beam bridge was built in 1923 and reconstructed in 1990. It is classified as poor condition. Approximately 7,000 vehicles a day use the bridge, on average.

Work is expected to occur during the 2026 construction season.

Traffic Impacts

The project will be constructed using a temporary runaround, so the roadway can remain open for the majority of the project. Construction of the proposed runaround will be completed at the start of the project and will require the removal of a portion of the existing curb and center median. It will extend through the existing industrial parking lot on the western side of the project and will include access for a pedestrian detour adjacent to the runaround.
