PennDOT Announces Virtual Plans Display for National Pike Trail Tunnel No. 4 Under Route 40 in Washington County

Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 12, along with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), invites the community to participate in the virtual plans display of the National Pike Trail Tunnel No. 4 located under Route 40 in Buffalo Township, Washington County.

 The purpose of the project is to provide preservative maintenance to a tunnel which will be part of a future extension to the National Pike Trail. This maintenance will extend the useful life of the structure and provide safe trail use.

Information on the National Pike Trail Tunnel No. 4 located under Route 40, including a short overview and an online comment form, is available on the PennDOT website beginning today, Tuesday, October 15, through Tuesday, October 29. 

Visit the PennDOT District 12 website at http://www.penndot.pa.gov/District12. Click the Design and Construction Projects link under the District Links heading, click the Washington County box, and select the National Pike Trail Tunnel tile.

The online plans display introduces the project and elicits public input regarding questions or concerns. The public may also review and comment on the project's potential effects on Cultural Resources, according to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation's 36 CFR Part 800 regulations implementing Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. 

Project documents will be made available in alternative languages or formats if requested. If you cannot access the information online, require translation/interpretation services, or have special needs necessitating individual attention, contact PennDOT Project Manager Cristin Covert P.E, at 724-439-7155 or ccovert@pa.gov.
