Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing that Route 19 South (Washington Road) is scheduled to close to commercial truck traffic on Monday, July 8, between Route 221 (Dunn Station Road) in Washington Township and Route 21 (West High Street) in Waynesburg Borough, Greene County.

Trucks will be unable to use residential streets or turn around in downtown Waynesburg. Posted detours will be in effect to avoid the Richhill Street/West High Street intersection work zone.

Commercial trucks:

• Use Interstate 79 South (Raymond P. Shafer Highway).
• Take Exit 14 for Route 21 – Masontown/Waynesburg.
• Veer right at the fork onto Route 21 West (East Roy Furman Highway) towards Waynesburg.
  
• Southbound:
  
• ​​Turn left onto Route 19 South (Mount Morris Road).
• Northbound:
  
• Turn right for Routes 19 North/21 West (East High Street).
• ​Turn right onto Route 19 North (North Morris Street).

Passenger vehicles:

• Route 19 South (North Richhill Street).
• Turn right onto West Franklin Street.
• Turn left on North West Street.
• Turn left onto West High Street.
• Turn right onto South Richhill Street. 

Traffic on High Street will be controlled by 24-hour flagging. Drive slowly through the work area. Exercise caution and watch for stopped traffic.

Crews from Gulisek Construction will be working around the clock to rebuild the existing sidewalks and replace the roadway with 11 inches of concrete, providing an improved surface to accommodate heavy truck traffic.

Construction in the Richhill Street area, and the concurrent Route 19 South truck closure, is anticipated through mid-late July. All work depends on weather and operations.

This work is part of the $11.8M Waynesburg Betterment Project, to ensure a safe and efficient route for all modes of transportation through the downtown Waynesburg business district. Construction currently consists of new foundation and conduit installation for the new traffic signals, roadway reconstruction and repaving, and existing ADA ramp replacement. Completion is anticipated in October.

With flagging operations in place, motorists are asked to use caution while driving through the work zone and allow extra travel time. Safety is everyone's responsibility.
