Hudsondale Street Retaining Wall Replacement Project
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announces a Plans Display for the State Route 4010 (Hudsondale Street) Retaining Wall along Black Creek. This project is in Weatherly Borough, Carbon County.
This online plans display includes digital picture boards and an online comment form, and is available to the public from August 9, 2024 to August 26, 2024.
The purpose of the project is to maintain safe travel on Hudsondale Street along Black Creek that meets current design criteria. The project is needed due to the existing retaining wall being in poor condition. The existing structure along Black Creek consists of concrete gravity walls.
The scope of work will include replacing approximately half the length of the existing wall due to instability, and the replacement walls (Walls 1 and 2) will be located on approximately the same horizontal alignment as the existing walls.
The rehabilitated section of the retaining wall (Wall 3) will include concrete spall repairs, concrete aprons, and reconstructed top sections of the wall. Additionally, a cast-in-place moment slab will be placed at the south end of Wall 2 to transition from the existing adjacent wall barrier to new guide rail that will be installed along the curb line of Hudsondale Street.
Other improvements will include full depth roadway reconstruction behind the wall replacements, mill and overlay of the roadway behind the wall section being rehabilitated and at the approaches, new concrete curb, and drainage improvements. Rock scour protection will be installed on top of the footings and within the stream channel adjacent to the wall sections that are to be replaced.
It is anticipated construction will be begin in early 2026 with an anticipated completion in late 2026.
The purpose of the plans display is to introduce the project and receive public input regarding any questions or concerns with the project.
