The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is informing motorists that all closures of State Route 403 (Tire Hill Road) Somerset County, will be lifted at approximately 6 PM tomorrow (Friday, Nov. 8), but work will continue on the route.
While motorist will be able to travel with minor delays the length of Route 403 (Tire Hill Road) from its intersection of Route 985 and Ferndale Avenue to its intersection of Kring Street and Soap Hollow Road, PennDOT officials stress that work continues on the project.
Contractors will be controlling traffic using single lane closures with flaggers. PennDOT stresses extra caution in all work zones. Motorists should drive slowly, eliminate all distractions, and stay alert for construction vehicles and personnel.
Route 403 had been closed near Greenhouse Park since April after PennDOT crews in the area observed damage due to heavy rain and high water in addition to the existing minor settlement and cracking of the roadway. Following the repair of the road near Greenhouse Park in October, Route 403 (Tire Hill Road) was closed 500 feet north of the signalized intersection with Kring Street and Soap Hollow Road for the box culvert construction portion of the project.
The work is part of the Route 403 Corridor Improvement Project, which includes about 13 miles of the road between Tire Hill and Hooversville with various improvements including pavement preservation, milling, resurfacing, guide rail and drainage upgrades, new signage and pavement markings, a retaining wall, new curbing and sidewalks, tree trimming and removal, and upgraded traffic signals.
Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
