Bridge Deck Repairs Require a Traffic Detour for Route 3009 (Evitts Creek Road) across Koon Dam in Bedford County

06/04/2024

A section of Route 3009 (Evitts Creek Road) and detour traffic beginning Thursday, June 6, 2024, for bridge deck repairs across Koon Dam in Cumberland Township, Bedford County.

A stretch of Route 3009 (Evitts Creek Road) which spans Koon Dam, will have two sections of bridge decking reinforced. These repairs will eliminate a future need for a posted weight restriction on the bridge. When the bridge closes on Thursday, traffic will use a 13-mile detour that follows Route 3003 (Lake Gordon Road, U.S. 220, Route 3009 (White Church Lane), back to Route 3009 (Evitts Creek Road). This detour is expected to be in place until July 18, 2024.

The City of Cumberland, Maryland owns and operates Koon Dam, the bridge that carries Route 3009 (Evitts Creek Road) and the reservoir, which serves as the City's water source. The City has contracted Carl Belt, Inc., of Cumberland, Maryland, to complete the $75,000 project. All work is weather dependent.
