Contractor to remove trees to provide access for utility work
Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that preliminary work related to a bridge replacement project on Route 34 (Spring Road) in Cumberland County is scheduled to begin later this month. The bridge spans Spring Run between Wagner Drive and Route 944 (Wertzville Road) in Middlesex Township.
Weather permitting, on Monday, November 25, the contractor will begin removing trees within the project limits to allow access for utility work. Tree removal and utility work will be performed under short-term flagging.
The bridge replacement project is expected to begin next spring under staged construction. During construction, traffic will be reduced to a single lane at the intersection of Route 34 and Route 944 with temporary traffic signals providing traffic control. A truck detour will be in place during this time using Wagner Drive and Sheaffer Road. Updated press releases will be issued prior to any significant traffic impacts.
This project includes replacing the existing structure with a precast concrete box culvert and other miscellaneous construction.
JVI Group, Inc., of York Springs is the contractor on this $ 1,435,165 project. All work is expected to be completed by November 18, 2025.
