Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today the northbound Interstate 83 Welcome Center, located approximately 2.2 miles north of the Maryland state line in York County, will remain closed until Monday, November 4, so the facility’s current heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system can be replaced with an energy efficient system.
The Welcome Center parking area also will be closed.
This work is a Guaranteed Energy Savings Act (GESA) project, initiated by PennDOT and the Department of General Services in 2021. GESA projects upgrade heating, ventilation, air conditioning and lighting systems to improve energy efficiency in buildings and decrease growing energy costs. These upgrades significantly reduce energy usage which result in decreased utility spending.
