Work planned for weekend of Nov. 8-11; may take longer
Harrisburg, PA – The sinkhole repair project planned for the weekend of Nov. 1-4 on westbound Route 30 just east of the off-ramp to Route 74 (Carlisle Street) in West Manchester Township, York County, has been rescheduled for the weekend of Nov. 8-11. The closure is expected to last the weekend, possibly longer than that.
The project was rescheduled due to concerns the closure may continue into Tuesday, Nov. 5, which is Election Day.
Weather permitting, westbound Route 30 will be closed at the sinkhole beginning at 7:00 PM Friday, November 8. The road is expected to reopen by 6:00 AM Monday, November 11, though circumstances may require a longer closure. A press release will be issued should the closure extend beyond 6:00 AM Monday. A rain date is set for the following weekend.
A detour will be in place. Travelers heading west on Route 30 should turn right onto Roosevelt Avenue and proceed north to Route 238, turn left onto Route 238 and proceed west to Route 74, then turn left on Route 74 and proceed south to Route 30.
There may be delays and congestion along the detour route. Travelers are advised to avoid the area, if possible.
This work is part of a pavement patching project that includes concrete patching, concrete paving, diamond grinding, asphalt milling, base repair, asphalt overlay, guiderail updates, ADA ramps, signs, pavement markings, and other miscellaneous construction on Route 30 from Route 74 in West Manchester Township to Interstate 83 in Manchester Township. The project also includes base repairs, milling and overlay on Roosevelt Avenue (Route 4001) from Marbrook Lane in the City of York and Manchester Township to just north of Greenbriar Road (Route 4011) in West Manchester Township.
JVI Group, Inc., of York Springs is the contractor on this $ 8,739,391 project. All work is expected to be completed by November 7, 2025.
