Resurfacing Project to Resume on Route 23 in Lancaster County

Weekend closure planned for Route 23/Ranck Church Road intersection

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a 3.6-mile resurfacing project on Route 23 in New Holland Borough and Earl and East Earl townships, Lancaster County is scheduled to resume later this month. Work on this project requires the Route 23/Ranck Church Road intersection to be closed the weekend of September 27-30.

The project has been delayed due to an unforeseen drainage issue that needed investigated. Upon investigation those issues will be resolved by the spring of 2025.

Weather permitting, work will begin Wednesday, September 25. The contractor will resume work by replacing drainage pipes. After this work is complete, final paving will be performed on previously milled sections of the roadway. This work is expected to be completed this fall.

There will be daytime short-term closures for the drainage replacements and nighttime lane closures for the final paving.

The intersection of Route 23 and Ranck Church Road will be closed for drainage work from 9:00 PM Friday, September 27, to 6:00 AM Monday, September 30. A detour will be in place using Route 322, East Earl Road and Ranck Road. 

Additional drainage work and paving is expected to be performed next spring, which will complete the project. 

This is project consists of full width milling, base repair, drainage replacement, guide rail updates, ADA curb ramp construction, line painting, sign updates, and other miscellaneous construction on Route 23 from Kinzer Avenue in New Holland Borough to Cedar Creek in East Earl Township.

Motorists should be alert and drive with caution through the work zone.

Allan Myers, LP, of Worcester, PA, is the contractor on this $2,680,833 project.
