Reminder: Center Barrier Project to Begin Sunday Night on Route 22/322 in Reed Township, Dauphin County

09/04/2024

Project just west of Clarks Ferry Bridge will improve safety by eliminating left turns

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is reminding travelers that a safety improvement project consisting of the installation of center barrier to permanently eliminate left turns on Route 22/322 just west of the Clarks Ferry bridge in Reed Township, Dauphin County, will begin this Sunday night.

Weather permitting, work will begin Sunday, September 8, and take about two weeks to complete. Work will be performed Sunday through Thursday nights from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM. There will be left lane restrictions in both directions of Route 22/322 during work hours.

Work may be performed Friday and Saturday nights if inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances impact the work schedule.

Center barrier consisting of raised curbing and delineators will be installed from the existing concrete barrier separating the eastbound and westbound lanes of Route 22/322 just east of the Route 11/15 interchange and extend east to the center concrete curbing at the intersection with Route 849.

This work will improve safety by closing the center turn lane and eliminating left turns through the corridor west of the Clarks Ferry Bridge. Left turns from westbound Route 22/322 to Route 849 will still be permitted. A left turn restriction from Route 849 to Route 22/322 will remain in place.

To access businesses on the opposite side of the highway, travelers heading west on Route 22/322 should exit at Route 11/15 south (Camp Hill), then take Route 11/15 south to Route 22/322 east (Harrisburg). Travelers heading east on Route 22/322 should exit at Route 147 and return west on Route 22/322.

This project also includes new signing and pavement markings.

New Enterprise Stone and Lime Company, Inc., of New Enterprise, PA, is the contractor on this project.
