UPDATE: Traffic Shift Planned on U.S. 422 Next Monday Marks Start of Stage 2 Construction on Improvement Project in Lower Pottsgrove Township

09/27/2024

King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a shift of eastbound U.S. 422 traffic has been rescheduled to next Monday, September 30 due to inclement weather. The shift will mark the beginning of Stage 2 of PennDOT's $83.6 million project to reconstruct and improve approximately 2.1 miles of the expressway and replace bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

When Stage 2 is completed in late 2025, eastbound U.S. 422 traffic will be shifted onto the rebuilt pavement, and westbound traffic will be shifted to the median for the start of westbound reconstruction under Stage 3.

Under this Section M1B project, U.S. 422 will be reconstructed on both existing and revised alignments to improve horizontal curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance to enhance travel and safety. A culvert at Sprogels Run, located just east of Porter Road, along with an existing single-span bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Porter Road, will be removed and replaced with a new two-span bridge. The bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will also be reconstructed and widened.
