Philadelphia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that barrier construction will occur at night beginning Saturday, June 29, on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia under a $36.8 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

• Saturday, June 29, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 AM the following morning, and Sunday, June 30, through Tuesday, July 2, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, alternating lane closures will be in place in both directions on I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) between the Montgomery Drive and the Spring Garden Street interchanges.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this contract, PennDOT's contractor will mill and overlay I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) pavement from U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) to I- 76 (Vine Street Expressway); perform concrete base, shoulder and barrier repair and replacement as needed; construct minor grade adjustments for existing inlets at select locations; replace damaged signs; install new pavement markings, delineators, and rumble strips; and perform bridge repairs.
