Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated residents impacted by a project to improve approximately five miles of Route 522 in Lewistown Borough, Derry, and Decatur townships in Mifflin County that the contractor started work on adjusting mailboxes to meet height requirements today. The project will address drainage deficiencies throughout the corridor and improve the ride quality of the road surface and multiple structures within the project limits.
The contractor will continue mailbox adjustments throughout the rest of this week and possibly next until all adjustments are complete. Residents within the project area are not responsible for completing these adjustments individually.
Crews will also seed the areas where they placed topsoil last week, reset signs throughout the work zone, and paint edge line and centerline markings today, tomorrow, and Friday. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours. PennDOT urges drivers to watch for slow-moving or stopped vehicles throughout the work zone, obey the posted speed limit, and always buckle up.
Overall work on this project involves roadway reconstruction, paving, drainage improvements, guide rail installation, pavement marking, bridge preservation work, and miscellaneous construction. Grannas Bros. Stone & Asphalt Co., Inc. is the contractor on this $6.2 million project. PennDOT now anticipates project completion in mid-November. All work is weather-dependent.
