PennDOT Updates Weight Restriction on Potter County Bridge

10/24/2024

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) alerted drivers that it updated a posted weight restriction on a Route 3002 (Cowley Hill Road) bridge spanning Cowley Run five miles west of Austin Borough in Portage Township. Effective Monday, October 7, this posting is updated to a 20-ton weight restriction for single vehicles and 31-tons for combination vehicles.

PennDOT updated this weight restriction following an inspection on Tuesday, September 24. It replaces the previous 13-ton weight restriction for single vehicles and a 21-ton for combination vehicles.

PennDOT Potter County Maintenance crews repaired the beams of this bridge the week of August 5. Those repairs led to the updated posting.

This 49-foot structure, originally built in 1943, carries an average of 550 vehicles daily and is programmed for replacement during the 2029 construction season.
