Paving Continues on Route 522 Improvement Project

09/26/2024

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers on a project to improve approximately five miles of Route 522 in Lewistown Borough, Derry, and Decatur townships in Mifflin County. The project will address drainage deficiencies throughout the corridor and improve the ride quality of the road surface and multiple structures within the project limits.

The contractor will pave at the curves and complete some driveway tie-ins throughout the project limits Monday, September 30, through Wednesday, October 2. Starting Thursday, October 3, the contractor will begin paving at Fox Avenue and continue northbound to the end of the work zone. It will apply fresh pavement markings to the road surface at the end of each workday. Flaggers in the roadway will enforce alternating traffic patterns during daylight hours.

PennDOT announced most of this work for the week of September 23, but weather delayed its completion.

Overall work on this project involves roadway reconstruction, paving, drainage improvements, guide rail installation, pavement marking, bridge preservation work, and miscellaneous construction. Grannas Bros. Stone & Asphalt Co., Inc. is the contractor on this $6.2 million project. PennDOT anticipates project completion in late October. All work is weather-dependent.
