​Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that round the clock work on its South Atherton Street (Route 3014) project that stretches from Curtin Road to just north of Westerly Parkway in State College starts Monday. While the contractor will not work on Friday, October 4, or Saturday, October 5, to minimize traffic impacts for Penn State's home matchup against UCLA, drivers traveling through the work zone can expect the following during the week of September 30.

Crews will mill the roadway surface between Curtin Road and Beaver Avenue during daylight hours Monday, September 30, through Thursday, October 3. During the overnight hours, crews will pave the roadway surface withing the same stretch. Flaggers in the roadway will direct traffic through the zone. PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution in all work zones, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.

Milling and paving between Curtin Road and Beaver Avenue is expected to continue the week of October 7 under the same conditions. Once paving is complete, drivers may encounter short term lane closures the week of October 14, however significant traffic impacts associated with this project will have ended.

Overall work on the project includes roadway reconstruction, drainage improvements that include pipes and inlets, water and sewer lines, concrete curbing, sidewalks and detectable warning surfaces, pavement markings, traffic signals and supports, and miscellaneous items. HRI, Inc. of State College is the contractor on this $30.7 million project. PennDOT anticipates the contractor completing the project in the fall of 2024, but all work is weather-dependent.

PennDOT reminds motorists that intermittent traffic stops are possible for short periods during work activities and urges drivers to use caution when traveling through the work zone. PennDOT also reminds drivers not to follow construction equipment into the closed lane and to use both lanes to the merge point to minimize traffic back-ups and shorten travel delays when approaching the work zone.
