PennDOT Announces Closure of Additional Section of Route 555 in Elk and Cameron Counties Due to Flooding

08/09/2024

Clearfield, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a section of Route 555 in Elk and Cameron Counties has been closed due to flooding. As of 11:00 AM Route 555 is closed from the intersection of Rock Hill Road in Benezette Township, Elk County to the intersection of Route 120 in Driftwood Borough, Cameron County. This closure is expected to last at least until 5:00 PM Friday dependent upon the amount of continued rainfall.

PennDOT previously announced Route 555 closed from the beginning of the Route at the intersection with Route 255 in Jay Township, to the intersection of Rock Hill Road in Benezette Township. PennDOT expects this closure to remain in place until at least 3:00 PM on Friday, dependent upon the amount of continued rainfall.

PennDOT is closely monitoring roadways and the impacts of flooding due to heavy rains with the arrival of Tropical Storm Debby to the region.

PennDOT will issue updates as needed throughout the day. PennDOT also cautions motorists to never drive through flooded roadways, as it takes just two feet of fast-moving water to float a car. Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorists who disregard traffic control signs.
