PennDOT Issues Update on Route 522 Improvement Project

08/08/2024

Clearfield, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers on a project to improve approximately five miles of Route 522 in Lewistown Borough and Derry and Decatur townships in Mifflin County. This work will address drainage deficiencies throughout this corridor and improve the ride quality of the road surface and multiple structures within the project limits.

There is no work scheduled on Monday, August 12. Starting Tuesday, August 13, flaggers in the roadway will also enforce single-lane closures while the contractor continues roadway widening at the following locations:

  • Tuesday, August 13, between Goss Road and Hillside Terrace
  • Wednesday, August 14, between Hillside Terrace and Crossover Road
  • Thursday, August 15, between Crossover and Stimely roads
  • Friday, August 16, between Stimely Road and Cherrywood Avenue

PennDOT urges drivers to build extra time into their travel schedules as delays are probable when work is ongoing, to watch for slow-moving and stopped vehicles within the work zone, to exercise caution while traveling through work zones, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.

PennDOT also asks homeowners to park their vehicles at the end of their driveways farthest from the roadway when possible to allow more room for the heavy equipment to operate. It also said it will place steel plates so that driveways and side roads are still accessible while work is ongoing.

Overall work on this project involves roadway reconstruction, paving, drainage improvements, guide rail installation, pavement marking, bridge preservation work, and miscellaneous construction. Grannas Bros. Stone & Asphalt Co., Inc. is the contractor on this $6.2 million project. PennDOT anticipates project completion in late October. All work is weather-dependent.
