Uniontown, PA – Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) District 12 is announcing that a portion of Route 2007 (Hecla Road) is scheduled to close on Monday morning, May 13, from Aster Drive West/Aster Road to Route 2021 (Mount Pleasant Road) in Mount Pleasant Township, Westmoreland County. 

A posted detour will be in place using the existing Route 981 and Route 2007 (Hecla Road) and is anticipated until late May depending on weather and operations.

Crews from Walsh Construction Company will be completing the new Route 981 and Hecla Road approach to the roundabout.

This work is part of the $55.2 million Laurel Valley Transportation Improvement Project (laurelvalleyproject.com) to upgrade the Route 981 corridor from the intersection with Route 819 in Mount Pleasant Township to the intersection with Route 30 in Unity Township and is broken into three separate projects. The southernmost section will involve reconstruction of Route 981 from the intersection with Route 819 north to a point just south of the town of Calumet. The project is expected to be complete in September 2024.
