PennDOT Announces Closure of the Pleasant Valley Bridge in Indiana County

06/27/2024

Indiana, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that for the safety of the traveling public, the Pleasant Valley Bridge in Buffington and East Wheatfield Townships, Indiana County will be closed today, following a recent inspection that showed accelerated deterioration. The Pleasant Valley Bridge carries River Road (Route 2012) over Blacklick Creek.

The existing structure is scheduled to be replaced. On March 13, 2024, PennDOT hosted a public meeting to discuss and review plans for the bridge replacement.  The bridge was originally anticipated to go into construction in summer 2026.  PennDOT is looking to accelerate the project with construction to occur in 2025 based on the recent closure.

To detour from north of the closure, motorists should travel on River Road (Route 2012), turn left onto Cramer Pike (Route 403), turn left onto Route 22 Eastbound (William Penn Highway), and turn left onto Wehrum Road (Route 2013) to arrive at the southern side of the closure.

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 950 traffic cameras.
