PennDOT, Safety Partners to Host Bicycle Rodeo in Crawford County

07/23/2024

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and various safety partners have scheduled a free children's bicycle rodeo in Crawford County in connection with the launch of the City of Titusville's Bicycle Registration Program.

The event will take place Saturday, August 3, 2024, in the parking lot of Titusville City Hall at 107 North Franklin Street.

The goal of the children's bike rodeo is to interest kids in bicycling, educate them on safety requirements, and instill in them safe biking habits. All participants will take part in a number of activities that focus on a specific bike safety skill such as using proper hand signals and maintaining balance.

Registration for the rodeo will begin at 9:30 AM, and activities will follow from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. All attendees should bring a bicycle and helmet and be accompanied by a parent or guardian who can sign a permission slip for participation.

Pre-registration for the rodeo is available by visiting www.penndot.pa.gov/district1 and selecting the “Bike Rodeo" button in the Resources section. The event is open to all children ages 5 to 12.

The Titusville Police Department will conduct helmet and bicycle inspections for all riders prior to participation.

Children who attend the rodeo will be able to take advantage of the new Bicycle Registration Program during the safety checks. Bikes can be marked with a registration sticker and input into the city's Bike Index database. The program is designed to help the Titusville Police Department identify lost or stolen bikes and ensure their return to the rightful owner.

At the conclusion of the rodeo, a random drawing will be held to give away two free bicycles donated by Roughneck Gravel Roubaix. A limited number of free helmets will also be provided by Roughneck Gravel Roubaix and a free hot dog lunch will be supplied by Rep. R. Lee James.

The event is also being coordinated by the Titusville Area Trails Association (TATA) and Titusville Renaissance, Inc. (TRI) with support from Titusville Methodist Church.
