Weight Limit Posted on Route 89 Bridge in Crawford County

06/04/2024

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today an updated weight limit has been established on the Route 89 bridge over Hummer Creek in Oil Creek Township, Crawford County.

The bridge had previously been posted with a weight restriction that allowed for only one truck at a time. The new restriction will limit crossings to 35 tons or 40 tons for combination loads. Vehicles exceeding the posted weight limit are required to use alternate routes.

The weight restriction was implemented after a routine inspection uncovered deterioration to the 24-foot, steel beam bridge.

Creating the weight restriction will reduce strain on the bridge and will preserve safety until repairs can occur. Work on the bridge will be completed in connection with an upcoming project to improve the intersection of Route 77 and Route 8 in Bloomfield Township, Crawford County.

The bridge is located near Thompson Run Road. It was built in 1950 and is classified as fair condition. Approximately 825 vehicles use the bridge daily, on average.
