Traffic Shift Planned Next Week at Median Barrier Project on Route 30 (Wrights Ferry) Bridge Between Lancaster and York Counties

11/22/2023

Westbound traffic to return to normal; eastbound traffic to shift toward median

Harrisburg, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that a traffic shifts are planned for next week at the median barrier project on the Route 30 (Wrights Ferry) Bridge spanning the Susquehanna River between Hellam Township in York County and Columbia Borough in Lancaster County. There will be nighttime lane restrictions so the shifts can be completed.

Currently, both directions of Route 30 are shifted to the right lane and shoulder on the bridge.

Weather permitting, next week the westbound lanes be shifted back to their normal configuration. The eastbound lanes will be shifted toward the center median so the contractor can perform work including steel repairs under the bridge from the right shoulder. This project phase is expected to continue through December.

To initiate the shifts, from 9:00 PM to 6:00 AM the night of Monday, November 27, traffic will be restricted to a single lane on westbound Route 30 so lines can be eradicated and painted. This will place westbound traffic into its normal configuration.

During the same hours the nights of Tuesday, November 28 through Thursday, November 30, traffic will be restricted to a single lane on eastbound Route 30 so temporary barrier can be removed and lines eradicated and painted. This will allow eastbound traffic to be shifted toward the center median. The right shoulder will be closed with construction barrels.

This project includes improvements to the median barrier and other construction activities.

JD Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, PA is the prime contractor on this $5,247,787 project. Work is expected to be completed by November 2024.
