King of Prussia, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that construction is underway on the project to improve travel and safety on the Route 3 (West Chester Pike)/East Gay Street/Route 3 (Market Street) corridor in West Goshen Township, Chester County.
Under this contract, PennDOT’s contractor will perform improvements throughout the project corridor that include reducing the number of travel lanes; upgrading pavement; installing High Friction Surface Treatment (HFST); closing one median break and building an extension at two others; installing new pavement markings, chevrons, and curve warning signs; and constructing a new signalized intersection at Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and the U.S. 202 South off-ramp.
Sections of the corridor that will be improved under this project include:
- Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and Prospect Avenue to Morris Road.
- Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and Concord Road Intersection.
- Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and U.S. 202 North ramp.
- Route 3 (West Chester Pike) and Patrick Avenue Intersection.

On Thursday, May 30, through Friday, November 29, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a weekday lane closure is scheduled in both directions on Route 3 (West Chester Pike) between Garfield Avenue and Spring Lane for concrete median demolition and reconstruction.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Highway Materials, Inc. of Flourtown, PA, is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 100 percent federal funds. Physical construction on the project is expected to finish in the winter of 2025.
