Overview

This project involves the rehabilitation, replacement, and preservation work on the following five structures:

  1. Rehabilitation of the 2-span bridge carrying Market Street over the Schuylkill River
  2. The replacement of the bridge carrying Market Street over the Schuylkill River Park and CSX railroad from a 4-span bridge to a 1-span bridge
  3. Replacement of the 3-span Market Street bridge over I-76 at the Schuylkill Avenue West intersection
  4. Rehabilitation of the Chestnut Street (Route 3 Eastbound) bridge over CSX (partially completed)
  5. Preservation work on the Walnut Street (S.R. 3 westbound) bridge over the Schuylkill River and other features, due to its use as a detour route for Market Street 
Pedestrian and bicycle improvements are being coordinated with the City of Philadelphia throughout the project. This includes work on Market Street, Walnut Street (Route 3 Westbound), and JFK Boulevard access to the Schuylkill River Trail Park and the Schuylkill River Trail. The project is also coordinated with Amtrak, SEPTA, Drexel University, the University City District, PECO, and the Schuylkill Yards development.
