U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) Sinkhole Remediation Project
Project Location
Overview
The U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) sinkhole remediation project will provide a long-term solution to address repeat sinkholes that have occurred within the roadways. The proposed work will be completed along U.S. 202 (DeKalb Pike) in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard. The proposed scope of work includes a limited mobility grouting program that will involve drilling holes through the pavement in a “grid” pattern. Pressurized grout will be injected into the drilled holes to fill subsurface voids beneath the roadway. The filling of subsurface voids will help stabilize the ground beneath the pavement and reduce the risk of future sinkholes. Additional proposed work for this project includes drainage pipe replacement and lining and pavement reconstruction.
Construction is anticipated to last between 6 to 8 months at the project location. Temporary traffic control patterns will be implemented to provide a safe work zone during construction. U.S. 202 will utilize a staged-partial traffic detour to maintain traffic in a single direction on 202. Opposing traffic will be diverted to Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road. Temporary traffic signal configurations will also be provided during construction.
The Department is completing public outreach to adjacent owners and businesses and will coordinate construction activities to maintain access to all connecting properties. Updates and future project briefings will be provided as the project progresses. Construction is anticipated to begin in early fall 2024.
