Maple Glen Triangle Project
Project Location
Overview
The Maple Glen Triangle, formed by Route 63 (Welsh Road), Norristown Road (SR 2052), and Route 152 (Limekiln Pike), encompasses portions of Upper Dublin and Horsham Townships in Montgomery County, PA. The Triangle includes small to medium-sized businesses offering various personal and convenience services. Outside of the Triangle, residential developments are present along the three roads. The signalized intersections at each corner of the Triangle do not provide adequate capacity to maintain proper traffic flow. The lack of controlled access on each leg of the Triangle prohibits proper circulation through the area and strains the already stressed intersections.
The proposed project involves the following improvements to the Triangle:
- New traffic signal equipment and timing/phasing modifications at the signalized intersections of Welsh Road/Norristown Road, Limekiln Pike/Norristown Road, and Welsh Road/Limekiln Pike
- Roadway widening along Welsh Road to provide for a three-lane section and dedicated turning lanes where warranted
- Roadway widening along Norristown Road will provide dedicated turning lanes where warranted and enough width to allow for the potential of bike lanes as part of a future project.
- Reconstruction of Limekiln Pike to reconfigure lanes in coordination with Welsh Road and Norristown Road improvements
- Elimination of continuous curb cuts and creation of centralized driveways
- New sidewalk and ADA upgrades
- Roadway drainage improvements
The project will be constructed in three stages to maintain traffic throughout construction. The first two stages will use traffic shifts to allow one travel lane in each direction while half of the road is under construction. The third stage will use short-term traffic control measures to complete the construction.
Construction will begin in Fall 2026 and be substantially completed by 2028.
