Route 896 Safety Improvements Project
Project Location
Overview
The purpose of this project is to reduce the number of crashes and related injuries and the severity of the crashes which occur along the approximate five-mile section of Route 896, between Elbow Lane in London Britain Township and Cobblers Lane in New London Township. This project will include:
- Increasing the lane width and shoulder width along PA Route 896
- Reconstructing the roadway at the following locations:
- in the area of the vertical (crest) curve at the New London/Franklin Twp line
- in the area of the horizontal curve north of Walnut Glen Road/Pennbrook Drive
- in the area of the vertical (crest) curve between Scotts Glen Road and Hunt View Lane
- in the area of the horizontal curve north of Good Hope Road
- in the area of the vertical (crest) curve south of Good Hope Road;
- Constructing left turn lanes on Route 896 at the following intersections:
- Chambers Rock Road
- Hess Mill Road
- Constructing a roundabout at the Route 896/Chesterville Road (Route 841) intersection;
- Improving drainage along portions of PA Route 896;
- Repaving Route 896;
- Updating traffic signs along Route 896.
Construction activities are anticipated to require short-term and long-term detours.
