Route 309 over Morgan Creek and Beaver Run Bridge Replacements
Project Locations
Overview
PennDOT plans to replace the bridges that carry West End Boulevard (Route 309) over Morgan Creek and Beaver Run. The single-span reinforced concrete bridges were built in 1936 and are in poor condition. The bridges carry local traffic as well as emergency services vehicles. The bridges carry an average of 40,000 vehicles per day and there are no weight limitations currently posted at the bridges.
The proposed replacement structures will be constructed on the same alignment; however, they will be slightly longer bridges to better accommodate stream flow. The bridge will be widened to provide larger shoulders but will include the same number and width of travel lanes to match the highway approaches.
Due to the high volume of traffic in the area and the proximity of homes and businesses to the project limits, construction staging will be developed to accommodate traffic flow in each direction and maintain access to surrounding homes and businesses.
Project Outreach
PennDOT hosted a live virtual public meeting for this bridge replacements project on Thursday, April 18. The department's design team delivered a project presentation before opening the meeting to questions using the platform's Q&A feature.
Members of the public who were unable to attend the online meeting can view the recording and a copy of the materials on this webpage.
