Rockhill Drive & Neshaminy Boulevard Intersection Improvement Project
Project Location
Overview
The Neshaminy Boulevard/Rockhill Drive Improvement project in Bensalem Township is a mill, overlay, and widening of existing Neshaminy Boulevard (locally owned) near Rockhill Drive. The project is intended to ease the congestion at the Rockhill Drive and Neshaminy Boulevard intersection, which impacts travel on U.S. 1 at the Neshaminy Interchange. To reduce congestion, additional turn lanes and lane reconfigurations are proposed. The improvements include the following:
Neshaminy Boulevard:
The new sidewalk will be added along the south side of Neshaminy Boulevard from Palton Road to Rockhill Drive to connect to the sidewalk constructed east of Rockhill Drive.
The right turn lane from southbound Neshaminy Boulevard onto Rockhill Drive will be milled, overlaid, and widened.
Northbound Neshaminy Boulevard will be widened to two lanes from the Rockhill Drive Intersection to the signalized Neshaminy Mall and Neshaminy Square intersection. This will include the mill and overlay of the existing pavement and complete depth widening of the roadway.
The new sidewalk will be added along the south side of Neshaminy Boulevard from Rockhill Drive to the signalized Neshaminy Mall and Neshaminy Square Intersection.
A center turn lane along Neshaminy Boulevard will be extended to the signalized Intersection at Neshaminy Mall and Neshaminy Square.
Neshaminy Boulevard will be restriped from the signalized Intersection at Neshaminy Mall and Neshaminy Square to the Bristol Road Intersection to provide for a travel lane in each direction plus the addition of a center turn lane.
A retaining wall will be constructed along the north side of Neshaminy Boulevard between the two mall access entrances.
Rockhill Drive:
A second left turn lane will be constructed on Rockhill Drive to northbound Neshaminy Boulevard.
Rockhill Drive, south of the intersection with Neshaminy Boulevard, will be widened to match the additional lanes of Rockhill Drive to the north.
Mill and overlay are proposed from the Neshaminy Mall and Target Shopping Center Intersection to the intersection with Neshaminy Boulevard.
The sidewalk will be constructed along the Neshaminy Mall side of Rockhill Drive from the U.S. 1 Section RC2 northbound off-ramp to the intersection with Neshaminy Boulevard.
Stormwater management facilities are being assessed for the project.
Permanent Right-of-Way acquisition is anticipated. Temporary Construction Easements will be required for contactor access during construction.
