Bridge St. Bridge Replacement

Project Location

Overview

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation proposes to replace a single-span reinforced concrete slab bridge that carries West Bridge Street (Route 32) over a Tributary of the Delaware River. The project is located in Falls Township and Morrisville Borough, Bucks County. The existing structure was constructed in 1934 and is approximately 10’-0” long.

The proposed scope of work is to replace the existing bridge structure with a reinforced concrete box culvert. Modifications to both vertical and horizontal alignments of Route 32 are anticipated to be minimal. The existing stormwater system will be investigated within the project limits and any areas of deficiency will be identified. Other construction activities will include the reconstruction of the sidewalk on the north side of the bridge, the installation of a guide rail, and the installation of scour protection.

The approach to construction (detour or staged traffic control) will be determined as the preliminary design progresses.

The purpose of this project is to address the deficiencies of the existing structure plus provide safe and efficient access for the traveling public on Route 32 in the project area.

The existing bridge exhibits significant deterioration to the primary elements of the structure. The existing bridge structure has a posted weight limit of 34 tons and requires certain vehicles to travel more circuitous routes to complete trips.
