Following significant storming overnight in Juniata County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT's) announced detour routes for a pair of closures in the area. Bridge inspection crews are on their way to inspect a pair of structures and estimate when the roadways will be reopened, but PennDOT expects at least one of the closures to be long-term.

Following significant storming in its North Central region overnight, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT’s) announced the closure of numerous roads. In some instances, the roadways are closed because the water level reached the underside of a bridge and PennDOT must perform inspections of those structures before reopening them and there are currently no accurate estimates on when those roads will reopen.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work on a streetscape project impacting Route 144 and Spring Street in Bellefonte Borough will start Tuesday, Sept. 3. This project will improve concrete sidewalks, driveways, and curbing along almost 600 feet of Route 144 and Spring Street within the municipal boundaries.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that construction on its High-Speed Interchange between Interstates 80 and 99 will begin on Wednesday, September 4. This project will enhance traffic safety by providing a direct connection between the two highways, making it unnecessary to travel along Route 26 to access them, relieving traffic congestion, and realigning service for local traffic.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers on the schedule for its South Atherton Street (Route 3014) project that stretches from Curtin Road to just north of Westerly Parkway in State College. Drivers traveling through the work zone can expect the following Monday, August 26, through Friday, August 30.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced a new start date of Monday, August 26, for a bridge preservation project in Roulette Township in Potter County. The bridge spans the Allegheny River along Route 4003 (Pomeroy Street), and the project will improve ride quality across the structure and improve its overall condition rating from poor to good.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that its Clinton County Maintenance division will start a bridge replacement project along Route 4001 (Kettle Creek Road) in Leidy Township, Clinton County, on Thursday, September 5. Replacing this bridge, which spans Summerson Run near the lower entrance to the Kettle Creek Park camping area, will improve the overall condition rating of the structure from fair to good.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) alerts drivers that work will begin Monday, August 26, on sidewalk installation along Route 4014 (Maple Avenue) and Route 4017 (Shaffer Road) in the City of DuBois and Sandy Township in Clearfield County. This will improve safety and accessibility for pedestrians and motorists along these routes.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work to trim and remove trees along Route 44 in Hebron, Clara, and Sharon townships and along Route 1005 in Pike Township, Potter County, began on Monday, August 12. This work will enhance driver safety and extend the life of the roadway surface.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers on the schedule for its South Atherton Street (Route 3014) project that stretches from Curtin Road to just north of Westerly Parkway in State College. While the contractor will not be working on Friday, August 23, or Saturday, August 24, to mitigate traffic impacts for students moving in for Penn State’s fall semester, drivers traveling through the work zone can expect the following Monday, August 19, through Thursday, August 22.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) placed radar-controlled speed display boards this week on Route 2006 and Route 3040, both in Centre County. The boards are intended to remind drivers to obey the posted speed limit and aid in curbing speeding, a common type of aggressive driving behavior.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that work will start in the eastbound lanes for its Interstate 80 preservation project between mile markers 97 and 120 in Clearfield County on Saturday, August 17. This project will improve the ride quality and extend the service life of nearly 24 miles of roadway and six bridges along this stretch.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a section of Route 4013 in Potter County is closed due to flooding brought on by heavy rains. As of 11:30 AM on Friday the road is closed between the intersection of Route 6 in Coudersport and the intersection of Route 49 in Allegany Township. This closure is expected to last at least until 4:00 PM Friday dependent upon the amount of continued rainfall.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a section of Route 555 in Elk and Cameron Counties has been closed due to flooding. As of 11:00 AM Route 555 is closed from the intersection of Rock Hill Road in Benezette Township, Elk County to the intersection of Route 120 in Driftwood Borough, Cameron County. This closure is expected to last at least until 5:00 PM Friday dependent upon the amount of continued rainfall.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a section of Route 4004 (Chestnut Grove Road/Bush Hollow Road) in Centre County has been closed due to rising flood waters. The road is currently closed between Bald Eagle Valley Road in Union Township and Snow Shoe Mountain Road in Boggs Township. PennDOT anticipates the closure to remain in place until at least 5:00 PM Friday, dependent upon the amount of continued rainfall.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a section of Route 879 in Clearfield County has been closed due to flooding of the Susquehanna River between the intersection of Airport Road in Lawrence Township and the intersection of Route 970 in Goshen Township/Shawville. The road is expected to remain closed until 3:00 PM Friday, dependent upon the amount of continued rainfall.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that a section of Route 555 in Elk County has been closed due to flooding. The road is closed from the beginning of the Route at the intersection with Route 255 in Jay Township, to the intersection of Rock Hill Road in Benezette Township. PennDOT expects the closure to remain in place until at least 3:00 PM on Friday, dependent upon the amount of continued rainfall.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated its schedule for surface treatment operations, more commonly known as “oil and chip,” in Clearfield County for the week of August 8. This maintenance treatment seals the road surface to keep water out, restores the friction of the surface to enhance traction, and extends the service life of the pavement between resurfacings.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) updated drivers on a project to improve approximately five miles of Route 522 in Lewistown Borough and Derry and Decatur townships in Mifflin County. This work will address drainage deficiencies throughout this corridor and improve the ride quality of the road surface and multiple structures within the project limits.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced it will change the traffic pattern on I-80 westbound at the site of a bridge replacement project between mile markers 165 and 166 in Centre County on Friday, August 9. This project consists of roadway improvements to enhance the ride quality of Interstate 80, Route 1010 (Huber Ridge Road), and Sand Ridge Road and to replace four bridges spanning Huber Ridge and Sand Ridge roads to improve their overall condition rating.
