Pittsburgh, PA – PennDOT District 11 is
announcing the closure of a single northbound lane on I-79 and the on and
off-ramps at the Route 51/Coraopolis/McKees Rocks (Exit 64) interchange as part
of the I-79 “S-Bend” project in Kennedy, Robinson, and Neville townships, and
Glenfield Borough, Allegheny County will occur from 7
p.m. Friday, August 23 through 6 a.m. Saturday, August 24 and from 7 p.m.
Saturday, August 24 through 6 a.m. Sunday, August 25.
There will be a
closure of the northbound I-79 LOCAL LANE for
crews to conduct paving operations beginning at 7
p.m. Friday, August 23 through 6 a.m. Saturday, August 24 and from 7 p.m.
Saturday, August 24 through 6 a.m. Sunday, August 25. All northbound I-79 traffic will use the crossed over express lane
(left-hand lane) while the local lane is closed.
Additionally, the
ramps carrying traffic from northbound I-79 to Route 51/Coraopolis/McKees Rocks
(Exit 64) and traffic from Route 51 to northbound I-79 will close to traffic to
allow crews to conduct milling and paving operations. Both ramps will close to
traffic 7
p.m. Friday, August 23 through 6 a.m. Saturday, August 24 and from 7 p.m.
Saturday, August 24 through 6 a.m. Sunday, August 25..
These restrictions
could be lifted earlier if work is completed sooner.

As a reminder,
northbound I-79 between the I-376 Airport/Pittsburgh (Exit 59 A/B) and Route 60
Crafton/Moon Run (Exit 60) interchanges will also be reduced to a single-lane
from 7 p.m. Friday, August 23 and remain in place continuously through 6 a.m.
Monday, August 26.
This work is part of
the $43.9 million I-79 “S-Bend” Project that includes full-depth pavement
reconstruction, bridge preservation work on five mainline structures (I-79
northbound and southbound over Clever Road, I-79 northbound and southbound over
Route 51, and the Neville Island Bridge). Additionally, there will be milling
and paving of three ramps at the Route 51 (Coraopolis/McKees Rocks)
interchange. The project also includes guiderail replacement, highway lighting
and signing upgrades, new pavement markings and delineation, and other
miscellaneous construction work.

will be coordinated with other projects in the area.
