In an effort to expand our Limited English Proficiency (LEP) resources and improve customer access, we have a new way to view our Driver's License Manual! The PA Driver's Manual is available online at www.dmv.pa.gov.
Transitioning this vital public document into translatable content was a collaborative effort between PennDOT's Bureau of Equal Opportunity, Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) and the Communications Office.
The Driver's License Manual is now available on our website as a translatable document using the Commonwealth's Google Translate feature. This manual was already available in eighteen of the most requested languages as PDF files, however, it is now more broadly available in over 100 languages and is now accessible using “Web Readers" and other accessibility programs.
This web-based manual was enhanced with an interactive practice quiz and instructional videos. This process has been applied to the Department's Limited English Proficiency Plan and Public Participation Plan. This process is now being applied to the Driver's Motorcycle Manual and the Commercial Driver's License Manual, which is projected for completion in early 2021.
With hopes to expand availability of this and other publications as translatable web content, it can improve access and aid in the creation of other accommodations, such as large print versions of the English and translatable Driver's License Manuals.
As a reminder, we also have an audio version of the manual available on our website.
